QUAD - December 2009
Final round, 31st October 2009,
Report: Sharon Woodburn
Saturday saw the final round of the NAJQC 2009 Club Championship.
The 50cc A final saw all the top riders competing for the final round of points to secure as high a position as possible in the championship. There was nothing but trust between the top three riders with Daniel Harper, Cori Dillon and Ronan Mooney all fighting for podium places. The B final was won by Andrew McCormack, having suffered a disappointing break-down in the qualifying heats which meant he didn’t achieve enough points for a place in the A final. Joel Hunter secured second place with newcomer Obi Dillon finishing third. In the LTA50cc class Megan Ferguson clinched first place just ahead of Jack Mawhinney.
Hayley Magowan led from start to finish in the standard 100cc class. The boys, namely, Ciaran McMullan, Patrick McMullan and Bailie Kirkwood gave her a hard chase but were unable to catch her.
The speed increased in the Open 110cc class with Stephen Mulholland securing first place on the day. He was very closely followed by Ciaran McCracken and Darren Owens.
With only a few points between the leading riders in the 80cc class everyone was out to do their very best. In the A final Andrew Compton took control of the race and first place points on the day. Daniel Crossey took a well earned second place ahead of Jordan Dillon in third.
In the B final, Kyle Spence was off the line first and led throughout the race to take the chequered flag. He was closely followed by William McCoy with young Zoe Smyth taking a creditable third.
The Blasters were, as usual, fast and furious with tensions running high. James Tougher took the top points finishing first on the day. He was followed by Mark McLernon and Gary Lowe who each gave good chase to create exciting racing.
David Forsythe had a very disappointing day with machine trouble during his qualifying heats. However, he went on to win the B final, with Aimee Thompson and Mark Greaves battling for second and third place.
NAJQC would like to congratulate all the riders for a great racing season, providing some excellent racing which proved to be exciting and entertaining. Thanks also to St John Ambulance for their support at each event and to everyone who helps in any way to help promote the sport.
