Gravity LC

QUAD - February 2010

13th December 2009, Wildwoods Farm, Paignton

Report: Mike Samuel

A favoured venue that is often used by GravityLC, the farm is large enough for the layout of the track to be different for each of Gravity’s visits.  With sections varying from fast, flat out farm tracks to steep ascents and descents, the course tests the rider’s skill and quad control to the limit.  Being the final round of the 2009 GravityLC Championship many of the top places in the championship were up for contention.

In the 100 to 125 class Lloyd Furzey, Sophie Bailey, Craig George and Grace Keith all got off to a flying start with each rider capable of leading the race.  After 4 laps Lloyd Furzey’s quad started to loose pace after a crack in the swinging arm had developed and poor handling sidelined Lloyd to an unlucky 13th place.  Sophie led the field and gradually extended her lead to control the race from the front. Mature rides from the top championship runners were rewarded with a decent points haul to secure their final championship positions.   Lloyd Furzey took the 100 to 125 class 2009 championship with 9 wins from 11 starts, Grace Keitch pushed Lloyd all the way throughout the championship to finish a very creditable second place overall.

The 100 to 125A class was exciting as Jack Norris, Jamie Bone and Bradley Cockrem all got off to a flying start with all three riders setting a blistering race pace.  On the penultimate lap Jack Norris was leading the race but a broken drive belt dropped Jack to 4th place, Jamie Bone picked up the lead, a position he kept to the chequered flag.   In the 2009 Championship, Jack Norris, Jamie Bone and Paul MacCormack entered the last race with all of them having a chance of taking the overall title, it was a very mature ride that saw Paul MacCormack control his race pace to ensure a top 5 finish, this was enough to secure the GravityLC 125 A class championship for 2009.

Matt Branch and Jordan Howell had a great race in the 200 to 250 class with each rider holding the lead during in the race. Jordan had built a small lead but a mishap on lap 11 let Matt slip through to take the lead.  It was a lead he kept until he crossed the finishing line just 5 seconds ahead of Jordan in second place.  Although it was Matt Branch who won the last race of the season it was Jordan Howell who secured the GravityLC 2009 250 Championship.

Harry Timbrell needed a top 10 race finish to secure the 2009 GravityLC 250A championship, a race long dice with Harry Van Sommeren saw him take 2nd place in the race, this which was enough to secure 1st place in the championship.
